DON’T WORRY // New Believer Bible Study Lesson

We are often encouraged to pursue success at any cost and accumulate wealth, even if it means sacrificing time with our families. These situations can create dilemmas for us because they require us to choose between prioritizing our desires or prioritizing God’s desires for our lives. However, Matthew 6:33 tells us to seek first God’s kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be added to us. This verse is essential for new believers as it emphasizes placing God’s priorities above ours.

Historical Background:

Matthew 6:33 is part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, a famous sermon given to a large crowd. In this sermon, Jesus taught about the nature of the Kingdom of God and how we should live as citizens of that Kingdom.

The Message of Matthew 6:33:

“But Seek first the kingdom of God”  Means prioritizing God’s agenda and purposes over our desires and ambitions.

“And His righteousness” Emphasizes that we should prioritize living according to God’s standards of righteousness rather than our own.

“And all these things shalll be added to you” Means that when we prioritize seeking God and His righteousness, He will provide for our needs.

Consider:

A new believer named Sarah has just landed her dream job. The job comes with a high salary, great benefits, and opportunities to travel worldwide. However, the position requires her to work 70 hours per week, so she will have less time to spend with her family and in church. Sarah is torn because she wants to provide for her family and have a successful career, but she also wants to prioritize her relationship with God. In this dilemma, Sarah decides whether to prioritize her job and material success or seek God’s kingdom and righteousness first by prioritizing her relationship with God and her family. Matthew 6:33 can serve as a guiding principle for Sarah, reminding her that when she seeks first God’s kingdom and his righteousness, all these things will be added to her, including provision for her needs.
