BE GENEROUS AND DO GOOD // Going Deeper, Growing Stronger Bible Study Lesson

Galatians 6:9 serves as an important reminder of the value and impact of persisting in acts of kindness, love, and service, even when it becomes challenging or tiring. Our faith walk is marked by the continuous pursuit of emulating Christ’s selflessness and compassion, which often requires us to push through feelings of weariness or discouragement. By holding onto the promise that our good deeds will yield a plentiful harvest in due time, we find renewed motivation and strength to continue making a positive difference in the lives of those around us. Galatians 6:9 emphasizes the importance of steadfast commitment to doing good, as it not only reflects Christ’s love to others but also cultivates spiritual growth and maturity within ourselves, drawing us closer to the heart of God.

Historical Background:

The Apostle Paul wrote the book of Galatians to a group of churches in the region of Galatia. It was written when there was much debate and controversy over whether Gentile believers needed to follow Jewish customs and practices.

The Message of Galatians 6:9:

“And let us not grow weary while doing good” Means that we should not give up or lose heart even when doing good becomes difficult or discouraging.

“For in due season, we shall reap if we do not lose heart” This means that if we persevere in doing good, we will eventually reap the benefits of our efforts.

Understanding the importance of perseverance can be incredibly beneficial for believers. It reminds us that we can trust God’s faithfulness to see us through even when we face challenges or setbacks in our faith journey. It also encourages us to keep pressing forward in our pursuit of righteousness, knowing our efforts will ultimately be rewarded.

Consider:

Matt had been working tirelessly to share the Gospel in his community. He shared with co-workers, at the grocery store, and at softball games; simply put, wherever he went, he shared the gospel. Despite his efforts, he had yet to see much progress, and many people seemed disinterested in what he had to say.

One day while reading a devotional, Matt read Galatians 6:9 and was instantly encouraged by the phrase, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” He realized that he had been focusing too much on the immediate results of his work and not enough on trusting in God’s timing.

With this newfound perspective, Matt decided to trust in God’s faithfulness and continue doing good and sharing the gospel, even when his efforts went unnoticed. He found that as he persevered in his work, he saw signs of progress and growth in his community.

Through his experience, Matt learned the truth of Galatians 6:9 and the importance of perseverance in faith. He discovered that even when things seemed difficult or discouraging, he could find strength and hope in God’s promises and continue doing good with confidence and purpose.
